toward the Plague House. This lane
where the sword makers once kept shop was not very bright, and it was
relatively short, connecting the Little Five-Finger Square
to the Old Market street. A gutter
ran down it's center where children would float their toy boats, and
play at the foot of the Plague house as if there was no sickness left in

Dieses Gässchen, wo die Schwertmacher einst arbeiteten, war nicht allzu
hell, verband den Alten Markt mit dem Fünffinger-Plätzchen.
Ein Rinnstein führte hindurch. Die Kinder ließen darin ihre
Schiffchen schwimmen und spielten zu Füßen des Pesthauses, als ob
