Deutschordenshaus

The House and Church of the Teutonic order was built between 1709 and 1715 on the site of an older Gothic complex.  The origin of the House dates to a hospice founded by Kuno von Mnzenberg which was presented to the Teutonic Order in 1221 by Kaiser Friedrich II.

The Church of the Teutonic order, dedicated to Mary, was founded in 1309.  It's side altars, by unknown masters, were its treasure.  The baroque facade was added tot he church between 1747 and 1751.

The building was destroyed in the bombing raids of 1944.  After a long absence, the ruined building was returned to the Knights of the Teutonic Order in 1958, and it was rebuilt between 1963 and 1965.
