Hainer Hof 1900

The so-called Hainer Hof (Hainer Court) on the Northeast corner of Cathedral Square was originally the Frankfurt hostelry of Cistercian Abbey of Haina near Kassel.  On the right was the gothic St. Bernardus Chapel, built in 1476.  When Landgrave Philipp the Magnanimous closed the cloister during the Reformation, Hainer Court became a Hessian postal station.  This picture dates from about 1900.  By that time, the Court was used by craftsmen and merchants.  In 1938, a part of the court was torn down for new construction, the remainder succumbed to the bombings of 1944.

Die "Hainer Hof" am Domplatz war seit dem 13. Jahrhundert die Frankfurter Herberge des Zisterzienserklosters Haina bei Kassel.  Die rechts zu sehende gotische Sankt Bernarduskapelle wurde 1476 erbaut.  Nachdem Landgraf Philipp der Großmütige das Kloster im Zuge der Reformation aufgehoben hatte, wurde der Hof Landgräfliche Hessische Poststation.

Um 1900, als dieses Photo entstand, dienten Hof und Gebäude Handwerkern und Kaufleuten zur gewerblichen Nutzung.

Im Jahre 1938 wurden Teile des Hofes abgebrochen und durch Neubauten ersetzt.  Alles übrige ging in den Bombennächten des Jahres 1944 unter.
