The "Rebstock"
(Grape Vine) was an enclosed courtyard with openings onto the Old Market ,
Neugasse and Kruggasse. Friedrich Stolze, The city's beloved poet of the
Frankfurt dialect was born in at the Inn "zum Rebstock" in
1816. This picture from about 1900 shows the wood galleries common of
patrician houses of the mid 18th Century. With the breakthrough of the
Braubachstrasse in 1904, the Rebstock was partly broken up, and with the
bombings of 1944, totally destroyed.
