Frankfurt am Main - Hoechst

On February 11, 1355, Kaiser Karl IV granted city rights to the tiny town of Hoechst, which certainly did not please its neighbor Frankfurt. Even though a privilege granted by Kaiser Ludwig IV in 1336 prohibited fortifications within a 35 km radius of Frankfurt, a city wall was soon erected, much of which survives today.
This picture from 1935 shows a view of Hoechst taken from the south bank of the Main from the Battery to the Main Mill. This was the Hoechst harbor until about 1970.
At that time, as the picture shows, bathing was possible in the still unpolluted river.
Am 11. Februar 1355 verlieh Kaiser Karl IV dem Flecken Höchst das Stadtrecht und dies sicher gegen den Willen der Frankfurter. Denn ein Privileg des Kaisers Ludwig IV aus dem Jahre 1336 verbot jegliche Befestigungen im Umkreis von 35 km um Frankfurt. Trotzdem entstand in der Folgezeit die heute noch in großen Teilen erhaltene Stadtmauer.
Das Foto von 1935 zeigt die vom südlichen Mainufer aufgenommene Stadtansicht, von der Batterie bis zur Mainmühle. Hier war bis etwa.1970 der Höchster Mainhafen.
Damals war, wie auf dem Foto zu sehen, das Baden in dem noch nicht mit Schadstoffen belasteten Fluss, noch möglich.
